Buddhist Stupa Tributes Khieu Ponnary

A Buddhist Stupa has been built at Wat Svay Pope for Khieu Ponnary , the the late ex-wife of Pol Pot. The stupa was built by Ieng Sary and Ieng Thirith.
This may seem strange, but Ponnary and Pol got married in a Buddhist ceremony and the Communist Party of Kampuchea actually took a lot from that religions since it was nearly the only local theoretical influence Kampuchea had at the time.
A stupa (from Sanskrit and Pāli, literally meaning "heap") is a mound-like structure containing Buddhist relics--typically, the remains of a Buddha or saint.
